stop the world cos I wanna get off (political song-poetry)

stop the world cos i wanna get off

There’s trouble a comin’

And a state of mind to mourn:

Kids are killing their teachers

And bringing guns to the yard

There’s a guy in office

whose political bent

Is to spew poison tweets

As if heaven sent

He’s championing white rights

And Free Speech doesn’t count

Don’t trust the media —

Only ‘fake news’ abounds

It’s become too familiar

And much clearer to see

Violence has boiled over

And is naked in the street

It’s become hard to deny

Freedom’s ship has leak

Our moral compass is screwed

Governmental approval is weak

Now kids hunt their classmates

Mass murderers target malls

Once Armaggedon’s unleashed

Our Democracy might fall

It’s become too familiar

Freedom’s ship has leak

Our moral compass is screwed

trust in the government is weak

These days parents lay fearful

Of every single school day

Wondering if their kids

Will be taken away

In body bags too numerous

Or perhaps just in chains

Diluting judicial order

Until only calamity remains

With armageddon unleashed

And buffoons leading the land

The courageous must rise or

It’s Democracy’s last stand

Oh, please stop the world

Everything has gone wrong

Life keeps getting harder

While rules become soft

They’re arming the teachers

Cos there’re guns in the yard

Changing schools into prisons

Complete with armed guards

All sanity’s been lost

With that possibility

By exhalting the NRA

The fall becomes reality

This guy in the White House

Accused of sexual assault

Is heard bragging the details

Holding the women at fault

His foreign alliance

Puts our Freedoms at risk

These are horrible truths

That cannot be dismissed

One thing I can tell you

We must hold onto Hope

And safeguard democracy

With Truth spearheading revolt

With armageddon unleashed

And buffoons leading the land

The courageous must rise or

It’s Democracy’s last stand

We can’t stop the world

Nor can we turn away

We must face the peril

And deny a trumped up fate
