What in the World...

Coronavirus. Covid19. Covidonenine.

I think Mother Nature has had enough of our ignorance, our disobedience, our entitled natures. She's strewn little red flags along the path to enlightenment but we've either been too busy, uninterested or blind to see them. Raging wildfires in California. Sinkholes. Category Five hurricanes. Tsunamis. Then there are the older flags, bigger but certainly older, like low fish stock, rampaging red tides, earthquakes, and the usual 4 horsemen of the apocolypse. Greta Thurnburg was a small voice that became a yell. Did we listen? Oh, we're too busy making money. We can't stop the machinery that grinds ever slowly to the dank abyss of extinction. She tried.

Then she gave us covid19.

A crisis will bring out the good and bad and sometimes the very best in mankind. Not often, but it does happen. But don't look to America. Or Russia. Or Turkey. Or China. That way lies only tears.

why does matter matter

bits of cosmos, just a pinch

to help us build a cosmic ladder

like building a space station with a hammer

crushing pushing faster harder

molecules dance and twitch

collecting more, careening off

each distant shore getting bigger, electrons

neutrons soon collide then forming

harder fatter gaining orbit but needing more

amalgamating elements creating core

skipping, slipping through dark space

hurling, twirling - nothing is wasted

erased but some is blazed across

a malestrom - cohesive dynamo creating

something special and unique

just some water gives the tweak

we need, it feeds, then is released

creating atmospheric waves that change

the cover of the ball

that blue dot Sagar wrote about

just waiting for the spark of life

stumbling blocks of DNA forming

swarming, casting out that which

survival casts a doubt

eons later found in fields or a desert

at the equator - just a chunk of mystery

helps sleuth out our history

built with dust and particles

providing strength through obstacles

rendering spots at the top

for things that strive to survive

and dominate to facilitate the need

to stay atop through wanton greed

as our dot spins in its orb

listen carefully to the quiet din

as particles strive and create

mending blending then absorb

designed to rise and erase

complacency let the virus in

covid may have tipped the scales

tearing mankind with tooth and nail

science not politics will prevail

or not for who can say what day the tower

sways and we are lost - the cost of

greed that made us blind to the beauty

of this dot - a lesson mankind too soon forgot

now we hide within our caves like generations

through past eonic waves

placing bets on getting tests as we blend

bits of cosmos, just a pinch

to let the tweak begin again

that denies one destiny, forcing Fate

to ensure we’re at the top - the roll of dice

is doubles, boxcars - or not

life is such a precious thing behooving us

to hear the ring that calls us all to order

negating need for separate borders

uniting most at any cost - precious numbers

will be lost - a contrivance of hope

and science
